THE TWO SIDES OF BEN KEYS, August 10-September 4

Ben Keys is already recognized as one of North Carolina's most successful and popular artists. Ben's plein air impressionistic oil paintings of Wilmington and Raleigh, North Carolina street and coastal scenes are in many private and corporate collections throughout Eastern North Carolina. In an upcoming one-man show, Ben displays all new Wilmington scenes in his Edward Hopper style paintings.

Also on exhibit is the art of Ben's artist alter ego POP Art paintings that launch his TV Head Series. These are bright, bold acrylic on canvas paintings that reflect a generation that is immersed in the daily electronic connection of an information age that is hooked on the instant access to the companionship of the ever present talking head. As great POP Art should, Ben's work pokes fun at a global commonality of the human condition.

There will be a Reception for The Artist held at the Corporate Canvas Gallery on August 10th, from 6:30 until 9:00 pm. The artist will be present to discuss his work.

December 2006—Wilmington, NC

RITUALS - Rituals are those events that happen through life that bring families together. They can be wonderful events, like a first love, personal achievement, marriage or the birth of a child. And they can be sad or traumatic moments, such as illness or the death of a loved one. These rituals prove to be the glue that holds families together over the years. Now in her 70s, this is the largest number of original paintings Barbara has produced for a show. She has worked tirelessly for over a year to produce this astounding body of work.

North Carolina artist Barb Scalia opens her one-woman show Rituals, a magnificent collection of 26 new pieces. It's like a memoir of the collective unconscious. In loose, bright acrylics textured with crumpled paper, scraps of lace and ribbon, starlet magazine clippings, dated wallpaper and other charming odds and ends, Scalia depicts memories of events many of us share: a heated embrace in the back seat, unabashed dynamics of a family portrait, a naked and ponderous moment in pregnancy. A joyful and thoughtful trance overcomes a viewer, like flipping pages of a LIFE magazine, that captures the essence of experiences we all encounter.

Show runs December 5, 2006 through January 27th, 2007

August 2006—Wilmington, NC

On exhibit in the Corporate Canvas Art Gallery will be a show entitled, "The Romantics"—the art of Gilbert Marosi and Alexander Khomsky. An artist reception will be held on Friday, August 4th from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Mr. Marosi will hold a painting demonstration of his palette knife technique, as he begins a series of paintings of Wilmington scenes. The first of these paintings will be on view at the gallery. The reception is free and open to the public.

Gilbert Marosi is an internationally known artist from San Jose, CA. He shows in galleries in Quebec and Montreal, and has recently had a one man show at Stanford University in California. On display will be new works of intimate portraits of women, seen through the eyes of a romantic soul. Painting with the broad strokes of the palette knife, Marosi captures an inner beauty and romantic energy using color in much the same way that thermographic photographs capture areas of body heat.

Also on exhibit will be the romantic renaissance paintings of Russian-American artist, Alexander Khomsky. In his totally unique style, Khomsky portrays women in hats with symbolic elements that reveal their talents or passions. Khomsky's paintings reflect the romantic centers of Europe, Paris, Venice, and Tuscany.

This show runs from August 4 through August 26, 2006.
